A major earthquake destroyed buildings and caused damage in Turkey and Greece Friday.

The quake was given a preliminary magnitude rating of 7.0 by the U.S. Geological Survey. It was centered in the Aegean Sea about 8.5 miles northeast of Neon Karlovasion, on the north side of the island of Samos, off the coast of Turkey.

Local news said there were reports of fallen buildings and large waves on Samos. Video posted on Twitter showed what appeared to be a collapsed building in Izmir, Turkey.
