SURFSIDE, Fla. – President Joe Biden is in Surfside on Thursday, meeting with families impacted by the Champlain Towers South condo collapse as well as first responders.

Air Force One touched down at Miami International Airport just before 9:30 a.m., and Biden was first headed to a command briefing involving Gov. Ron DeSantis, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and other local leaders.

A week after the condominium suddenly came crumbling down in the middle of the night, the president is joined on the trip by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. They have time scheduled to meet with first responders and the families affected by the tragedy.

Biden is scheduled to make remarks from the St. Regis Hotel shortly before 4 p.m. and then departs South Florida shortly after that.

The White House and local leaders have said that the presidential visit will not detract resources from the search and rescue efforts at the collapse site.
