Island are pieces of earth surrounded by ocean water, rivers or lakes. They can sink if the movement of the tectonic plates in the region where they are, as in the event of an earthquake. An island also disappears if it goes through an erosion process. This occurs when rainy and winds wear the soil until you leave so low that water around you can cover it.
