Miami will close beaches for Fourth of July weekend to fight coronavirus surge

As Florida sees a surging number of new coronavirus cases, Miami-Dade County announced a plan to close all beaches ahead of the Fourth of July weekend. Miami Mayor Carlos Gimenez has signed an emergency order that will keep all beaches closed from July 3 until Tuesday July 7.

The order also bans gatherings of 50 people or more during these dates, and the fireworks show at Bayfront Park in downtown has been cancelled. Fort Lauderdale and Broward officials are still discussing closing their beaches but a decision has not yet been reached as we publish this article.
