Center of Tropical Storm Nicole to approach east coast of Florida tonight

Tropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane sometime Wednesday, will approach the northwestern Bahamas Wednesday morning and approach the east coast of Florida within the hurricane warning area Wednesday night.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Tropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane sometime Wednesday, will approach the northwestern Bahamas Wednesday morning and approach the east coast of Florida within the hurricane warning area Wednesday night.

Broward County Public Schools and Miami-Dade County Public Schools announced Tuesday that schools and district offices would be closed Wednesday.

All before and after-school activities are also canceled, as well as after care.

The Archdiocese of Miami confirmed that all of its schools will be open Wednesday.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s latest advisory, Nicole was about 60 miles east-northeast of Great Abaco Island, and it was moving west-southwest at 13 mph with 70 mph sustained winds.

Broward County is under a tropical storm warning, hurricane watch, and storm surge watch. The city of Pompano Beach announced that all of its facilities would be closed Wednesday due to the storm.

Miami-Dade County is under a tropical storm watch.

The National Hurricane Center warned the storm was going to affect weather conditions in Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
