Subtropical Storm Nicole begins to strengthen

Subtropical Storm Nicole, which has the potential to become a Category 1 hurricane, was <a href="https://www.local10.com/weather/hurricane/2022/11/07/subtropical-storm-nicole-forms-northeast-of-the-bahamas/" target="_blank">strengthening</a> into a tropical storm on Tuesday morning.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Subtropical Storm Nicole, which has the potential to become a Category 1 hurricane, was strengthening into a tropical storm on Tuesday morning.

On the forecast track, Nicole will approach the east coast of Florida on Wednesday night. Tropical storm conditions are expected by Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning.

According to the National Hurricane Center’s latest advisory, Nicole was about 385 miles northeast of the northwestern Bahamas, and it was moving northwest at 8 mph with 50 mph sustained winds.

A tropical storm warning is in effect from Hallandale Beach to Altamaha Sound, Georgia.

A hurricane watch is in effect from Hallandale Beach to the Volusia/Brevard County line. Lake Okeechobee is within the area. A storm surge watch is in effect from Hallandale Beach to the south of North Palm Beach. A tropical storm watch is in effect from north of Ocean Reef to the south of Hallandale Beach.

Broward residents should expect between two to four inches of rain. Mills Pond Park, at 2201 NW 9 Ave., in Fort Lauderdale, was set to open at 7 a.m. to provide city residents with six sandbags per vehicle while supplies last.
