Tennis player Anna Kournikova turned pro in 1995 when she was just 14 years old. The following year, the Russian native competed in the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Throughout her career as a professional athlete, Kournikova went on to be a two-time Grand Slam doubles champion before officially retiring from her sport in 2003.
Kournikova, 41, was featured in the SI Swimsuit Issue in 2004 after posing for photographer Tiziano Magni in Puerto Rico.
“It’s like the most amazing magazine and I read it every year,” she said of the annual SI Swimsuit publication. “Just amazing shots and very artistic, and so it was a great opportunity for me, too.”
Kournikova noted that she felt comfortable on set and that she and Magni were on the same page regarding the creativity of the photo shoot.
“It’s sports and then at the same time, it has beauty and fashion,” she gushed of the exciting opportunity.
Today, the retired athlete and her partner, Enrique Iglesias, share three children: Lucy, Nicholas and Mary. Kournikova regularly shares snippets of their family life on Instagram.
