As the state-run ISNA news agency wrote about this industrial zone: “Parchin is the name of a town and district in southeast Tehran. Part of Iran’s nuclear facilities is located in this city. The defense industries factories have been operating in Parchin since 1932. The concentration of important Iranian defense industries in this complex, in addition to maintaining stocks of missiles and other conventional ammunition, has turned this site into one of the important defense facilities, and Westerners also consider it a strategic military facility.”

It should be noted that fires and explosions occurred in Parchin before. The Parchin military complex has been a point of contention between Iran and Western countries over the Iranian regime’s nuclear program. Western countries said earlier that Parchin was the site of tests related to the explosion of the atomic bomb. Iranian regime officials denied the allegations but were not allowed to visit the area.

Earlier, on Sunday night (October 5, 2014), around 11 pm, a powerful explosion occurred east of Tehran, in the area around the Parchin military site, killing two people. As a result of this explosion, the windows of neighboring buildings with a radius of up to 15 km collapsed. According to locals, the light of the explosion was visible for miles.

The Parchin site in southeast Tehran is one of the military sites in Tehran where solid fuel for ballistic missiles is produced.
